Switching your WordPress host doesn’t need to be complicated. If you follow an orderly sequence, you can migrate an entire website in an afternoon without taking your live site offline for a single second.
Step 1: Audit your current setup
Note your current PHP version, database size, and where your DNS is managed (your domain registrar vs your host). Check whether you have email accounts hosted on the same server.
Step 2: Generate a full backup
Use a trusted backup plugin or cPanel to download your wp-content folder and an SQL export of your WordPress database.
Step 3: Deploy to the new host in staging
Import your files and database into your new hosting environment. Edit your local hosts file on your computer to preview and test the site before pointing public DNS.
Step 4: Update DNS records
Update your A record or nameservers to point to your new host. Keep your old hosting account active for at least 7 days to ensure complete global DNS propagation.
