You’ve seen the offer: hosting for £2.99/mo. Then the renewal email arrives a year later and it’s £11.99/mo — sometimes more. The first-year price was never the real price. It was a discount to get you signed up, paid for by everyone who forgets to check their renewal invoice.
Why hosts do this
It’s a customer acquisition tactic, not a hosting cost. Cheap year-one pricing wins the sign-up; the renewal price is where the actual margin sits. Most people don’t shop around every year, so the increase mostly goes unnoticed.
What we do instead
Our Starter hosting is £8/mo — at signup, and at every renewal after that. No discount period, no “was £2.99, now £11.99” jump. The price you’re quoted is the price you pay next year too.
How to check what you’re actually paying
Look at your last hosting invoice, then your first one. If the number’s gone up without you changing plans, that’s your renewal price hike. Worth checking before you assume your current host is the cheap option.
